Mouse

As the primary pointing device in many PC’s mouse come in many shapes and size from many manufacturers. The mouse was invented in 1964 by Douglas Englebart, who at the time working at the Stanford Research institute (SRI), a think tank sponsored by Stanford University. Although first appeared in Xerox and Apple computers, now mouse is used as a primary pointing device in GUI (Graphical User Interface) by most of operating system manufacturers, including Microsoft.
There are number of types of mouse available in the market. Which are,
Ball-type mouse
Internally all ball-driven mouse is very simple. The ball usually rests against two rollers, one for translating the X-axis movement and the other for Y-axis movement. The rollers are normally connected to small disks with shutters that alternately block and permit the passage of light. Small optical sensors detect the movement of the wheels by watching an internal infrared light blink on and off. The blinks are coverted to movements along the axis.

Optical Mouse
The LED inside an optical mouse illuminates the surface or sometimes a ball by blinking many times per second. The light is reflected from the surface back to the sensor, which converts the information into digital from and sends it to the computer.

Mouse Interface
There are two main interfaces used for mouse connections, with a third option you also occasionally might encounter.
   Serial Interface

 PS/2 Interface
